Take a look at this homeless guy in the picture. He's caused a lot of annoyance for me. He's not actually homeless he just enjoys looking like a creepy homeless pedophile. His name is Richard Stallman and he came up a trend in computers for naming things with recursive acronyms.
A recursive acronym refers to it's self in it's name. For example when Stallman was at MIT he was working on replacing the UNIX operating system. So he called the program GNU which stands for GNU is Not Unix. So what the fuck is GNU then? Well it's not Unix, so what the fuck is GNU then, it's not Unix. If you just did a face palm and thought oh god that's stupid your in the same boat as me.
Lots of people decided to use these recursive acronyms for the names of software over the years. Stallman started a trend with open source people. I don't know if it's supposed to be funny or make them look clever. All I know is that it makes acronyms that don't give you any useful information about the software.
